Underprivileged (almahrumin) :

1. deprived through social or economic condition of some of the fundamental rights of all members of a civilized society

“We live in a society that strips us of our basic needs…

Everyday, people walk past those in need- clinching their bags, uttering the words “crackhead” or “bum”. They yell at them to get off of the sidewalk- But they have no place to go. The sidewalk is the only place they can rest their heads at night, in hopes that someone will walk by and bless them. The privileged aren’t aware that those experiencing homelessness sleep on the streets night after night, struggling day by day, fighting to stay alive.

You look them in their eyes claiming to have no spare change while you stuff it back into your pockets. You claim that you do not give out money because you don’t know what they will do with it. How can one dictate the money they’ve given away- when you have not faced the hardships those in need encounter everyday?! The assumptions of those who are privileged, are the very reason why the underprivileged have not eaten today.

Be the change in life you wish see and always be considerate of your actions. Empathize with those in which you do not share the same experience, as one day you may be holding the cup.” - T. Amerson
